Dewey Short Visitors Center

Branson, Missouri

As a space intended for the use of the general public, Dewey Short Visitors Center is one of our favorite projects. It is the perfect combination of design and practicality.

Dewey Short Visitor Center, a 15,000 square-foot LEED Gold Certified replacement facility for the US Army Corps of Engineers. At the confluence of the White River and Table Rock Lake, the facility’s purpose is to attract, educate, and inspire visitors about one of the premier educational assets within the USACE public waterworks and dam systems.

As a cultural destination and a visual icon for the community, the new visitor center is raised up on a bluff at the edge of Table Rock Lake, overlooking the dam that provides power to the region. The lobby, visitor information area, theater, restrooms, and gift shop make up the first of three major functional areas. The second is an indoor/outdoor education space with a wet lab, and interactive interpretive exhibits in a two and a half story glass hall. The third area is the administrative offices and conference rooms in the east wing.
